NORTH LIMA -- Aqua Ohio plans more than $3 million in capital improvements in the Mahoning Valley this year.
That includes $1.8 million to rehabilitate Hamilton Dam in Struthers.
The Boardman company conducted a press event at the new Pine Lake development, for which it installed a new 12-inch waterline.
That line also gets the company close to the Columbiana County line in case a developer wants to build in that county and is in need of water service, said Albert J. Sauline, vice president and Struthers division manager.
The Pine Lake development is expected to include about 400 homes when it's completed.
Sauline said the Westford development in Canfield and Boardman is another example of the company's projects. The development will include both homes and commercial buildings.
Aqua invested $315,000 toward the $1.4 million project to bring water to parts of Western Reserve and Tippecanoe roads and Summit Drive that will serve the development.
"It opened up that whole area to development," said Jennifer Johnson, the company's communications coordinator.
Mahoning County commissioners and Mahoning County sanitary engineer pitched in sales tax and state Issue 2 funds, and developers also contributed.
Aqua is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state.
