Volleyball
Ebony Barbosa (Allentown, Pa.), Michelle McMunn (Buford, Ga.) and Tracy O'Bonna (Brampton, Ontario), a Division II Junior College All-American, have signed National-Letters-of-Intent during the late signing period to continue their volleyball careers at Youngstown State University, Coach Joe Bonner has announced.
Barbosa, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, earned four letters at William Allen High School and first-team all-district, all-conference and all-state selection. "Ebony is one of the most dynamic and explosive players we have had the opportunity to watch this spring," Bonner said. "She is a hard-working, natural athlete that will make an impact in our conference." McMunn, a 6-foot middle hitter, set the career kills and blocks records at North Gwinnett High School and was a two-time first-team all-district pick.
McMunn, who was a two-time captain and three-year letterwinner, also ranks ninth in the state for career blocks. "Michelle comes from a volleyball oriented family," Bonner said. "We expect her to compete for a job in the middle, but she can also play on the outside if we need her to."
O'Bonna, a 5-foot-7 outside hitter, ranked third in the nation with a .479 hitting percentage and 13th in the country with 3.9 kills per game. She also led Genesee Community College to a two-year record of 71-33, including a 36-16 mark in 2004. "Tracy is a great fit for this group," Bonner said. "She has a passion for the game and brings a winning attitude."
Barbosa, McMunn and O'Bonna join Karla Everhart in the 2005 recruiting class.
