SALEM -- The annual Republican Lincoln Day Dinner will be May 26 at Timberlanes. There will be a cash bar beginning at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The master of ceremonies will be Nancy Milliken, Columbiana County auditor, who will present guest speaker Jim Petro, Ohio attorney general. Little League parade
CHAMPION -- The Champion Little League Parade will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. It will begin at the main fire station at Champion Avenue and state Route 45 and will end at the ball park at the Champion Middle School.
Trustees to meet today
BOARDMAN -- Township trustees are meeting from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St., Youngstown.
Township elected officials, employees and invited guests will take part in a strategic planning retreat.
Stream cleanup planned
CANFIELD -- A stream cleanup day will take at Poland Woods from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 21. Volunteers are asked to meet at the College Street parking lot to Poland Woods. Gloves and bags will be provided, as will light refreshments.
The first 50 volunteers will receive a tree seedling. Volunteers are asked to pre-register.
The cleanup is hosted by Alliance for Watershed Action and Riparian Easements, Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and Poland village.

Jubilee Gardens kickoff
YOUNGSTOWN -- The annual kickoff for the Jubilee Gardens program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 26 in the Helen Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.
All active participants, sponsors, interested individuals and groups are invited to participate. There will be a short talk about the greenhouse activities of the Men's Garden Club of Youngstown. The various teams for the Good Natured Garden Partners, a gardening program that brings adults and youth together as a gardening team for the summer season, will be introduced, and their team growing packages will be distributed to them.
Seeds, plants and fertilizer will be distributed to those attending. There will be door prizes and a light lunch.

Golden Apple winners
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Office of Catholic Schools announced the 2005 winners of the Golden Apple Award, which is given to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools.

Contest to award $500
YOUNGSTOWN -- The topic for this year's Italian American Veterans National Essay Contest is "Why I am proud to be an American." The contest is open to all pupils in grades seven to 12.
The author of the winning essay will receive $500. Deadline for entry is June 30.
