BALTIMORE -- Sammy Sosa ended Baltimore's drought of 22 scoreless innings with a two-run double in the eighth inning, and Javy Lopez added a three-run homer to lead the Orioles. Erik Bedard (3-1) struck out a career-high 12 and allowed one run and four hits in eight innings for the Orioles, who averted a three-game sweep.
Rangers 16, Athletics 7, 81/2 innings, rain
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mark Teixeira and Alfonso Soriano hit two-run homers in a seven-run fourth inning, and the Rangers routed the Athletics to complete a three-game sweep. Richard Hidalgo had a home run and four RBIs as the Rangers swept a series at Oakland for the first time since April 13-15, 2001. Sandy Alomar Jr. also drove in two runs.
Angels 5, Mariners 2
SEATTLE -- Paul Byrd remained unbeaten against the Mariners and Vladimir Guerrero hit a two-run homer, leading the Angels to a victory that extended their winning streak to four. Byrd (2-3) improved to 5-0 against the Mariners, with four of the wins at Seattle. He allowed two runs and nine hits in 62/3 innings, struck out just three and walked none.
Red Sox 4, Tigers 3
DETROIT -- Kevin Youkilis hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning to lift the Red Sox over the Tigers.
Devil Rays 11, Yankees 8
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- With owner George Steinbrenner getting a close-up view from his suite at Tropicana Field, the Yankees lost for the sixth time in eight games and dropped six games under .500 for the first time since they were 34-40 after games of July 19, 1995. Rookie Damon Hollins went 3-for-3 with a solo homer and four RBIs.
White Sox 4, Royals 2
CHICAGO -- A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run homer as the White Sox won their fourth straight. While Chicago improved the best record in the major leagues to 20-7, the last-place Royals lost for the 14th time in 17 games and dropped to 7-20 despite outhitting the White Sox 9-6.

Braves 5, Marlins 2
ATLANTA -- Tim Hudson took a shutout into the eighth inning, Chipper Jones homered in his return to the Atlanta lineup. Adam LaRoche hit three doubles and drove in three runs for the Braves and Andruw Jones also homered. The teams split a two-game series at Turner Field, leaving the Marlins (15-10) with a percentage-point lead over Atlanta (16-11) in the NL East.
Padres 8, Rockies 7, 12 innings
SAN DIEGO -- Ryan Klesko's second homer tied the game in the ninth inning, and Miguel Ojeda singled in the winning run off Marcos Carvajal with two outs in the 12th as the Padres handed the Rockies their eighth straight loss.
Diamondbacks 6, Giants 2
PHOENIX -- Chris Snyder had a run-scoring double that capped a four-run fourth inning and made a key pickoff throw from behind the plate to throw out Ray Durham at first. Brandon Webb (4-0) won for the first time since April 8, allowing two runs, four hits and a season-high four walks in six innings. Luis Gonzalez had three hits as Arizona won for the ninth time in 12 games.
Mets 3, Phillies 2
NEW YORK -- Jae Seo (2-1) pitched one-hit ball for seven shutout innings, and streaking slugger Cliff Floyd homered and made an outstanding catch that saved two runs. Victor Diaz also connected to end a long slump, and Floyd added an RBI single as the Mets won for the third time in four games following a four-game losing streak.
Cardinals 7, Reds 3
CINCINNATI -- Scott Rolen returned from a sore back and hit a two-run homer as St. Louis completed a three-game sweep. Mark Mulder (4-1) allowed only three singles -- two of them infield hits -- over seven shutout innings, helping St. Louis improve the NL's best record to 18-8, the Cardinals' best start since 1948. Brandon Claussen (1-3) gave up seven runs and 10 hits in 31/3 innings as Cincinnati lost its seventh straight.
