PREP BASEBALL Vukovic's no-hitter gets McDonald a 7-0 victory
He struck out 10 and walked just one against Mineral Ridge.
McDONALD -- McDonald junior Corey Vukovic pitched his first varsity no-hitter on Tuesday, striking out 10 and walking one, to lead the Blue Devils baseball team to a 7-0 victory over Mineral Ridge in an Inter-County League game.
"He's been pitching well for us all year and he's really come into his own," McDonald coach Dan Williams said. "He's real consistent, he's got real solid control and he has a great curveball."
Vukovic (5-0) threw a two-hitter against Jackson-Milton earlier this year and flirted with a no-hitter against Springfield before breaking through on Tuesday.
Vukovic, who ended the game with a strikeout, walked his only batter in the second inning and McDonald's defense did not have an error.
"You know, it was sort of quiet for the first four or five innings," Williams said. "But he's a smart kid. I think he might've known what was happening.
"By the seventh inning, everybody knew."
Vukovic, a varsity starter since his freshman year, is also a good hitter, batting close to .500 on the season. He doubled in Tuesday's game.
When asked if Vukovic has any colleges after him, Williams said, "You know what? He's going to. He's probably going to be an all-league pitcher for us."

Mineral Ridge is 3-13.
