COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Ministerial Association is sponsoring a National Day of Prayer observance Thursday at Heartland Christian School, 28 Pittsburgh St. The event will begin with a sausage and pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Donations will be accepted to defray the costs of the breakfast. At 8 a.m., there will be a short program and time of prayer in the school auditorium. The theme for this year's observance is: "God Shed His Grace On Thee!" The public is welcome.
Drug screen results in
CORTLAND -- Results of Ohio State Highway Patrol crime lab tests released Tuesday show that city police Capt. Stan Lancey had several prescription painkillers, including Oxycodone, in his system the night he crashed his cruiser. OSHP troopers arrested Lancey around 4 a.m. March 31 after he was in a one-car crash on state Route 46 in Bazetta Township. The OSHP report states Lancey's cruiser hit three mailboxes. He was on duty. He was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He pleaded innocent. He is scheduled to return to Central District Court on May 25 for a pretrial. Lancey has been on sick leave since the crash, officials have said.
Look-alike event at mall
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Shenango Valley Mall will host its annual Mother Daughter Look Alike Contest at 1 p.m. Saturday. Participants will be judged on their likenesses as well as similar hobbies, talents and other items. Mothers and daughters who would like to participate in the contest may do so by visiting Mall Guest Services before Saturday to register.
Watch meeting set
VIENNA -- Vienna Township Neighborhood Watch will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Vienna Town Hall. Guest speaker will be Trumbull County Commissioner Dan Polivka. The meeting will be for Vienna residents only because of limited seating. Police Chief David Ovesny will give his monthly report. Refreshments will be served.
Diaper Derby Friday
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Shenango Valley Mall will host its first Diaper Derby at 6 p.m. Friday. Diaper Derby is for crawlers only. Children will be divided into two age groups: 3 months to 11 months and 12 months to 18 months. They will race in heats of five to six children by age category. Each heat will be timed, and the top three winners in each age group will receive prizes. First-place crawlers in each category will receive a $75 savings bond. Second place will receive a $50 savings bond, and third place will receive a $25 savings bond. Parents and guardians can register their baby at Mall Guest Services, or on the day of the race beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the mall's Center Court. A Women's Expo also will take place at the mall on Friday and Saturday. Vendors will be on hand throughout the day to cater to the needs of women. Fund-raiser involvesHandel's and school
YOUNGSTOWN -- Handel's Homemade Ice Cream & amp; Yogurt is teaming up with St. Matthias Elementary School to raise money to keep the school operational. Handel's at Market Street and Midlothian is having a Friends & amp; Family Day today from 2 to 10 p.m. for St. Matthias. Handel's Ice Cream has passed out Friends & amp; Family Cards to all pupils, faculty and church members to raise awareness of this event. Twenty percent of sales generated from the Friends & amp; Family cards will be donated to St. Matthias.
