Police to tell nonprofits how to legally gamble
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Police Department's Vice Squad Unit, in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Public Safety, will make two presentations on how nonprofit organizations can legally conduct charitable gambling/games of chance.
The forums will be at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. May 17 in Youngstown City Council chambers at city hall.
Over the last several months, the police department has received numerous inquiries from residents and groups interested in holding games of chance for charitable purposes, a news release said.
The games of chance are held at what is known as Las Vegas Nights, also known as Monte Carlo or casino nights in which card games such as Texas Hold 'Em, blackjack and poker are played, police said.
The forums will attempt to inform qualifying nonprofit organizations on how to legally operate charitable gambling events according to Ohio gambling laws.
For more information, contact Lt. Rod Foley, vice squad commander, at (330) 742-8951.
