PREP BASEBALL Opincarne pitches Lowellville victory



He had a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts in a 10-0 sectional win over Southern.
SALINEVILLE -- Lowellville High sophomore John Opincarne pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out 13 and walking two, to lead the Rockets to a 10-0 win over Southern in a Division IV sectional baseball opener.
Jonathan Calderon, Wess Cattoi and Rich Schrader each had two hits for Lowellville (3-12), which will play at Western Reserve on Monday.
Southern is 4-8.
McDonald 13, Lordstown 2
McDONALD -- Steven Hughes and Paul Logar each had two hits for the Blue Devils (10-5).
Winning pitcher Jonathan Camuso (2-0) struck out nine batters and walked five.
Lordstown is 1-8.
Leetonia 8, Sebring 5
SEBRING -- Ryan Gruszecki had two RBIs and Cody Tittle added a double for Leetonia (10-9).
Justin Baker (3-3) pitched six innings, striking out two and walking four, to get the win. The Bears will play at Columbiana on Monday.
Youngstown Christian 12, Mineral Ridge 7
STRUTHERS -- Pat Bader pitched 5 2/3 innings to get the win and also had two hits including a double and drove in three runs to lead Youngstown Christian at Cene Park.
Aaron Agresta, who got the mound save, also had two hits and scored three times as Youngstown Christian improved to 3-6.
Mineral Ridge, which bowed out at 3-12, was led by Brad Wood who was 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home runs and three RBIs.
Youngstown Christian next meets Mathews next Monday at Mathews.
Regular season
CAMPBELL -- Lou Sammonas had a double and two singles and Antoni Zembillas added two doubles for Campbell in an 8-6 win over Chaney.
Tirikios Frazier added two hits for the Red Devils (9-6), who scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally.
Niles 9, Struthers 2
STRUTHERS -- Niles broke open a close game with six runs in the top of the seventh inning to topple Struthers in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
The Dragons (11-5, 4-4) got two hits each from Joe Razzano, Matt Vince and Patrick Fortune, while Brandon Miller and Robbie Porter each drove in two runs with a double.
Jimmy Farris and Jimmy Kriebel had two hits each for Struthers.
Hubbard 7, Newton Falls 1
NEWTON FALLS -- Frank Rosile, Pete Pero and A.J. Pulice doubled for the Eagles (9-3, 5-3 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Pulice and Tom Jones each had two hits. Winning pitcher Matt Backes (3-0) struck out three batters and walked one.
For the Tigers, Joe Leeworthy doubled.
West Branch 10, Canton McKinley 2
CANTON -- Steve McNeely drove in four runs with two hits for the Warriors (9-7).
Andy Todor, Marc Possage and Jim King also had two hits.
Willy Evans drove in both runs for the Bulldogs (5-9).
