CRIME Newspaper-box delivery worker files theft reports against two

YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman who places The Vindicator into coin-operated newspaper machines filed police reports saying two people stole copies of Sunday's edition.
The woman and her husband were watching newspaper boxes for thieves when they spotted a man at 6:15 a.m. Sunday pull up to a box on South Meridian Road, deposit money for one newspaper and take two, a police report states.
The couple followed the man's car driving northbound, and eventually confronted him, the police report states. A check of the box showed the man took two papers, but paid for only one.
The license plate of the car showed the vehicle is registered to a striking Vindicator employee.
About 10 minutes earlier, the woman and her husband saw another man deposit what turned out to be four slugs in a Vindicator machine, and take eight newspapers at a Canfield Road gas station, according to a police report.
The couple confronted the man, who threw six of the newspapers back into the coin-operated machine, the report states. The man said the newspapers fell out of the machine even though the husband of the woman who puts The Vindicator in the box said they were stacked so as not to fall, the report states.
The vehicle in this situation is registered to a former Vindicator employee.
No charges were filed as of Monday against either man.
