Reservists travel abroad
VIENNA -- Twelve Air Force Reservists from the 910th Airlift Wing are scheduled to deploy today to the country of Qatar on a C-130 from the Air Force Reserve's 440th Airlift Wing in Milwaukee, Wis.
The reservists will be assigned to the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing at Al Udeid Air Base for 90 days.
The reservists, aircrew members and aircraft maintenance personnel, are being deployed to support the ongoing War on Terrorism as part of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Qatar is on a peninsula bordering the Persian Gulf and Saudi Arabia. As of Wednesday, about 178 Air Force reservists from the 910th remained on active duty with about 50 of them deployed overseas.
Fair touts jobs for youths
YOUNGSTOWN -- Those ages 18 to 25 who are looking for work will have a chance to meet with local employers at the Mahoning Valley Youth Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in the conference room of the Renaissance Center, 345 Oak Hill Ave. The event is sponsored by the Mahoning and Columbiana Training Associations' Youth Development Training Center. Mahoning men indicted
CLEVELAND -- The U.S. Justice Department has indicted two Mahoning Valley men on federal gun charges. A federal grand jury charged Archie D. Morris, 49, of Youngstown with possession of a firearm after he had been previously convicted of a felony offense. Mark McCracken, 45, of Warren is charged with possession of firearms on two separate occasions, also after a previous felony offense. The cases are being prosecuted under "Project Safe Neighborhoods," a cooperative program involving federal, state and local agencies, which aims to reduce the level of gun violence.
Superintendent search
CAMPBELL -- The city school board is looking for a new schools superintendent. It will meet with a member of the Ohio School Boards Association at 4 p.m. Monday at the board offices at 280 Sixth St. to discuss the superintendent search. The board voted not to renew the contract of Superintendent James Ciccolelli. His contract expires July 31.
Rep. Harwood to speak
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Federated Democratic Women's Club will have state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood of Niles, D-65th, as their guest speaker, at the monthly meeting April 4. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Democratic headquarters, 3200 Ridge Ave. in the lower level of Trumbull Business College. Girard open enrollment
GIRARD -- Girard City Schools will accept applications for open enrollment for the 2005-06 school year, from April 4-30. Applications can be picked up in the superintendent's office at 704 E. Prospect St. Students attending Girard under open enrollment must reapply for the 2005-06 school year. For more information, call the superintendent's office at (330) 545-2596 ext. 151.
Struthers enrollment
STRUTHERS -- The Struthers schools will have open enrollment on a limited basis for the 2005-06 school year.
Applications must be picked up in person at the Struthers Board of Education office between 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. April 4-8.
To be considered for open enrollment, completed applications must be returned in person to the board offices beginning Tuesday. The deadline for applications is 3:30 p.m. April 21.
An application is required for each pupil.
Applicants will receive written notice of the district's decision the first full week of May. No information will be given out over the phone.
Any pupil living in Ohio is eligible, except those who would be attending the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center for the first time.
