Relay for Life
AUSTINTOWN -- The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams to participate in the Relay for Life June 17-18 at Fitch High School. Team captain meetings will be April 4 and May 2 at the society office, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield. Living wills available
COLUMBUS -- Living wills and health care power of attorney documents are available free of charge for any Ohio citizen 18 or older. A living will allows the holder to specify preferences at the end of life, and a health care power of attorney names a trusted person to speak for you if you are unable to express decisions. Fund-raising workshop
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College event planners will be present from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16 at the McKelvey Campus Center. Planning sessions include "Special Event Planning" and "Westminster Regional Events." Fund-raising sessions include "How to Work with Volunteers," "Why People Give" and "Philanthropy in America." The college's senior associate director of admissions and an independent financial broker will present sessions regarding admissions. Westminster alumni and staff will be speakers. Elder abuse board
WARREN -- Judge Thomas A. Swift of Trumbull County Probate Court has been appointed by Gov. Bob Taft to serve on a state Elder Abuse Task Force Steering Committee. The task force was convened by Attorney General Jim Petro and Joan W. Lawrence, Ohio Department of Aging director. The steering committee was formed to ensure implementation of the task force recommendations in the fields of aging, law enforcement, probate law, academics and human services.
Cleanup event planned
WARREN -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste management District is making plans for Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup event. The district is inviting people to select a littered area to clean in April or May. More than 2.3 million volunteers this year in more than 15,000 U.S. communities are participating in cleanup, beautification and community improvement activities. Local groups, schools and individuals can contact the solid waste district at (800) 707-2673 to register a site or find out more about community cleanup days. Free supplies are provided to all volunteers.
