War re-enactment planned
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- The Western Pennsylvania Civil War Reenactors Society will be encamped at the Raisch Log Cabin in Sharpsville on Saturday, the Mercer County Historical Society announced. The daylong encampment will start early in the morning. The Raisch Log Cabin is at the Sharpsville Area Recreation Canal Park, near the site of the remaining intact canal lock. Free health screenings
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown City Health District will mark National Public Health Day with health screenings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 4 at the Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave. Public health professionals will offer free blood pressure screenings and HIV and tuberculosis tests. Blood sugar and cholesterol screenings will be offered at $5 per test.
Open burning meeting
RAVENNA -- A public meeting concerning the Ravenna Arsenal open burn is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Shearer Community Center, 9355 Newton Falls Road, Ravenna. Lynn Malcomb, administrator of the Akron Air Quality Management District, will discuss the process her agency takes in determining whether to approve an open burning application. Malcomb and others involved with the arsenal will field questions.
Crestview set to recycle
COLUMBIANA -- The next paper and aluminum can recycling collection at Crestview High School will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in the high school parking lot. Paper items collected are newspapers, magazines, phone books, catalogs, paperback books, hardcover books, school and office paper, junk mail and cardboard of all types. Paper items should be separated by type and packed into brown paper bags, smaller plastic bags or smaller cardboard boxes. Clean aluminum cans can be brought in larger plastic bags.
