OBMV Parks, zoos, cyclists to benefit from specialty license plates

COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles began four specialty license plates Wednesday.
Nature enthusiasts can buy an Ohio State Park license plate for an additional $25 to the standard registration fees. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will use $15 of this fee for outdoor education programs and nature centers. The plate features a bluebird and "Ohio State Parks" text.
Zoo supporters can buy an Ohio zoos license plate for an extra $25. Fifteen dollars from each sale goes to Ohio zoos for public education through field trips, outreach programs, teacher loan kits and teacher workshops. The plate features a leopard and "Visit Our Zoos" text.
Bicycle riders can buy the Share the Road plate for an additional $15, with $5 going to the Ohio Public Safety highway safety fund to publish Ohio Bicycling Street Smarts. An image of a bicycle rider, the Ohio Bicycle Federation's Web site and the text, "Share the Road," is on the plate.
These three plates can be bought at the deputy's registrar office, by mail or online at www.oplates.com. The plates can be bought for passenger vehicles, non-commercial trucks, recreational vehicles, house vehicles and noncommercial trailers.
Veteran motorcycle plates will be available for retired or honorably discharged veterans. The plate has no additional costs to the registration fees. It features the red, white and blue sunburst sheeting and the text, "VET." For this plate, call (800) 589-TAGS or contact any deputy registrar agency. Documentation will be required.
