Mount Union professors recipients of STAR grants

ALLIANCE -- Mount Union College faculty members Dr. Elaine Anderson, Dr. Jamie Capuzza, Dr. William Coleman and Dr. Naoko Oyabu-Mathis have been recognized as Sponsored Travel and Research grant recipients.
Given each spring by the Mount Union Office of Academic Affairs, the STAR grants are presented to faculty members who submit proposals for projects or research seen by a review panel as innovative, creative and helpful to the development of the individual faculty members.
Anderson, associate professor of music, received a grant to conduct a study during her sabbatical leave during the spring of 2005, which includes research on cello literature, reviving orchestral skills and performing in a regional symphony. A faculty member since 1997, she earned a bachelor of music degree from Concordia College, a master of music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Alabama.
Capuzza, professor of communication, received a grant to be a seminar leader in Russia. A faculty member since 1992, she earned a bachelor of arts degree from Mount Union College and both master of arts and doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University.
Coleman, professor of communication and Oyabu-Mathis, professor of sociology at Mount Union College, received a grant for participation in a peace education conference in Hiroshima, Japan.
Coleman, a faculty member since 1979, earned a bachelor of arts, master of arts and doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University. He also earned a master of divinity degree from Capital University.
Oyabu-Mathis, a faculty member since 1988, earned a bachelor's degree form Mount Union College and master of arts and doctoral degrees from the University of Akron.
