Men take on female personas in beauty contest for cancer research

The 'ladies' will help raise money for charity.
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- Some of the women Lawrence County Commissioner Ed Fosnaught will be working with next weekend might seem a little rough around the edges.
But that won't keep the ladies from putting their best high heels forward and stepping into the Miss Relay For Life Pageant Saturday night at the Lincoln High School Auditorium in Ellwood City.
The pageant, in its second year, benefits the American Cancer Society and will feature at least 16 area men who are willing to assume female personas for a good cause.
"I applaud these men for their willingness to participate," said Fosnaught, who will serve as master of ceremonies. "It's a very good time and very entertaining. I think people will get a real kick out of seeing these men in their costumes."
Contestants
Among pageant contestants are: Ellwood City Councilman Todd McDevitt, spinning into the role of "Wendy the Wonder Woman;" Beaver County Commissioner Charlie Camp, as "Sacagewea;" area auctioneer Dave Lias portraying "Shania Twainwreck;" and Wampum Mayor Ray Richardson, tap dancing into the part of "Shirley Ray Temple."
Doors open at 6 p.m., with the pageant beginning at 7. Tickets are $10 in advance and may be purchased in Ellwood City at Cappello's, the Ellwood City Ledger, ESB Bank, McElwain's, Rob's Superstop, National City Bank, SkyBank, First United Methodist Church and the Lawrence County commissioners office at the Lawrence County Government Center in New Castle.
Tickets also may be obtained by calling Fosnaught at (724) 656-2178, Carol MacDonald at (724) 758-4326, Joylee McCaughtry at (724) 752-0366 or Jeff Steffler at (724) 535-1387.
Remaining tickets will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis for $15.
Ellwood City Police Officer Brian Damon, as female persona "Star," won last year's pageant.
