Fugitive task force captures man

The Belle Vista man had 14 warrants from two police departments.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Fourteen warrants between Austintown and Niles and a 2003 escape from a Mahoning County Common Pleas Court appearance finally caught up to a South Belle Vista man.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended Paul J. Kalosky, 30, Thursday afternoon in the kitchen of his brother's Oregon Avenue home, said Dean Michael of the U.S. Marshals Service, coordinator of the multiagency task force.
Kalosky fled last month from St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where he'd been taken after leading Austintown police on a foot chase.
An officer saw Kalosky at the Sheetz at Mahoning Avenue and state Route 46 driving a Dodge Caravan that had been listed as a stolen vehicle. Kalosky fled into a wooded lot behind the store when the officer turned on his cruiser lights.
Canine assistance
Kalosky ignored orders to stop and fell several times during the pursuit. More officers arrived and a dog was released to try to stop him. Kalosky hit the dog with his arm before the dog bit him.
Kalosky started to have a seizure and was taken to the hospital, where he escaped.
Austintown police issued warrants for receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, assaulting a police dog and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Michael said that Niles police obtained 10 warrants for Kalosky within the last month. That department had two burglary charges, falsification, failure to comply with police, possession of criminal tools, two theft charges, two assaults and resisting arrest.
The Ohio Adult Parole Authority also wanted Kalosky for fleeing from the Mahoning County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Jack Durkin. Kalosky was there in July 2003 on a parole violation.
More arrests
The task force also arrested three other Mahoning Valley residents Thursday.
Erica Carper, 29, of Starlite Northwest, and Michael Stemock, 51, of Dodge Street Northwest, both of Warren, were arrested at their respective homes on charges of drug trafficking conspiracy and conspiracy to commit health-care fraud. Michael said the drug charge dealt with OxyContin.
Those charges stemmed from Drug Enforcement Administration cases.
Both appeared Thursday in U.S. District Court and are being held for trial, Michael said.
Torrie McDowell, 29, of Custer Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested at her residence on a drug trafficking charge from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office.
Agents and officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Mahoning County Sheriff's Department, Ohio Adult Parole Authority and Youngstown, Hubbard Township, Poland Village, Struthers and Washingtonville police departments make up the task force.
