YSU construction team places second at competition

YOUNGSTOWN -- A six-student team from Youngstown State University's Rayen College of Engineering and Technology took second place in the recent Ohio Contractors Association Estimating Competition.
The team was among nine universities in the two-day competition, won by Cleveland State University.
The other schools competing were the University of Dayton, The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, University of Akron, University of Toledo, Ohio University and Bowling Green State University.
The event requires team members to apply their knowledge of construction, critical thinking skills and teamwork.
Each team described its proposed work methods, scheduling techniques and computations in a time-constrained bidding simulation. Besides submitting a documented bid, each team gave an oral presentation to a panel consisting of senior management personnel from six Ohio Contractors Association member contractors.
Jon Locketti of Youngstown captained the YSU team. The other members are Dave Halverstadt of Salem, Ken Day of Poland, Jason Mays of East Liverpool, Jason Holod of Johnston and Tara Steele of Campbell.
The team members share a $1,500 second place cash prize.
Tom Metzinger of A.P. O'Horo Construction Co. in Liberty coached and prepared the team.
