Much McCants: Ed McCants of Milwaukee scored in double figures for the 22nd straight game Thursday. The last game McCants failed to score at least 10 points was when we was held to five at Wisconsin on Dec. 15. Thursday's game marked McCants' 55th double figure game of his career.
Dynamic duo: Milwaukee is 18-2 this season when McCants and Joah Tucker both score in double figures.
Long range: Milwaukee made at least 10 3-pointers for the third consecutive game. The Panthers 57.1 percent shooting from long range (12-of-21) was a season-best, exceeding the 56 percent (14-of-25) vs. Prairie View on Nov. 20.
About Alabama: The Crimson Tide is 19-18 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Saturday's loss was the second time in three years Alabama lost in the first round. The Tide lost to Indiana 67-62 in 2003.
New territory: Milwaukee's 13-point lead marked the second-largest halftime deficit for Alabama this season, exceeded only by a 23-point margin at Florida on Feb. 5. ... Boston College defeated Penn for the first time in three all-time meetings.
Up next for Panthers: Milwaukee will play Boston College Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Wolstein Center. Boston College is 19-15 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The game could hinge on rebounding. The Panthers were out-rebounded 34-22 by Alabama and Boston College held a 41-34 edge on the boards against Penn. Boston College is 17-2 when it out-rebounds its opponent this season and Milwaukee is 13-2 when being out-rebounded.
Happy anniversary: Penn's last victory in the NCAA Tournament was 11 years ago Thursday, a 90-80 win over Nebraska in a first-round game.
Slow starters: Wake Forest scored just 24 points in the first half against Tennessee-Chattanooga, a season low. The Demon Deacons' previous first-half low was 28 points against Providence Nov. 24, and their low for any half was 20 against North Carolina State in the second half of the March 6 game.
Record breaker: Wake Forest's victory was the team's 27th of the season, setting a new school record.
