Teens to be charged
AUSTINTOWN -- Two 17-year-olds were to be charged in Mahoning County Juvenile Court, one accused of taking a badge from a police supply story and the other accused of impersonating a police officer.
On Friday, the two juveniles went to Lifetime Muffler, Mahoning Avenue, saying they wanted to see an employee and that they had a warrant for that employee's arrest, police said.
There wasn't an employee by the name the boys asked for, and the manager called police.
Police found the boys at a business across the street where one admitted he took the badge from Red Diamond Uniform and Police Supply, Mahoning Avenue. The other is accused of flashing the badge at the muffler store.
Sentenced for drugs
YOUNGSTOWN -- An East Side man is on his way to prison for one year for drug possession.
Judge Maureen A. Cronin sentenced Jason Ray, 30, of Lilburne Drive to prison Monday. He pleaded guilty to a reduced drug possession charge back in November, and his sentencing was delayed pending a report from the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. The APA also recommended prison time.
Ray told the judge that he had a drug addiction problem and was in a rehabilitation program here to get help. The judge said, however, that Ray was on parole after serving time for another unrelated crime when he was arrested last year on the drug possession charge. "You waited too long to try to clean up your act," Judge Cronin said.
