It's Easter, E. European style, at Ukrainian Egg Festival

SHARON, Pa. -- The 16th annual Ukrainian Egg Festival will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Billy's Black & amp; Gold, 514 Sharpsville Ave.
Ansambl' Karavan, an Eastern European performance troupe now in its 27th year in the Shenango Valley, will offer European foods including kielbasi, halushky, holubsti (stuffed cabbage), a smorgasbord of perohy such as potato, steak, mushroom, cheese, sauerkraut, likvar (plum) and apple and the house specialty chicken Kiev.
The festival also will offer decorated Easter paskas (with or without raisins), the Ukrainian tradition of richly flavored bread shaped into doves and lambs. Nut, apricot and poppyseed kolachi and a few delicately flavored breads, including peanut butter bread, will be offered.
Many recipes will be found in the Karavan's cookbook, which will be offered for sale along with a selection of imported handicrafts and Easter items from Central and Eastern Europe.
Eggs, hand-crafted and intricately designed by Carol Novosel, Ukrainian pysanky artist, will be on display.
Her designs are originals with color schemes from geometric patterns to the reflections of our vast heritage and the lives of the saints.
Egg motifs are from Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Italy and Ireland.
Everyone attending the festival can learn to decorate a Ukrainian Easter egg.
Admission is free. For more information, call Donna Worona at (724) 983-0744.
