XAlliance Art Center's annual spring show will open at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rodman Public Library, 215 E. Broadway, with a demonstration in oils by artist Jack Liberman of Akron. The show is free and open to the public during library hours through March 26.
DINNERS
XWho's Who Alternative Housing is holding its annual benefit dinner at 7 p.m. April 16 at Theodore's Banquet Center, 1400 N. Canfield Niles Road, with County Commissioner Anthony Traficanti. FUND-RAISERS
XA golf outing to benefit American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Columbiana County is planned for May 16 at Salem Hills Golf and Country Club in Salem. The four-person outing will have three men's and three women's flights. Teams will be placed in a flight depending on the handicap of each golfer. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with lunch at 11. There will be a shotgun start at noon followed by awards, dinner, raffles and door prizes. There will also be a longest drive contest for a $200 prize, a hole-in-one contest for a General Motors automobile, and putting and chipping contests. XAmerican Cancer Society's Relay For Life at Youngstown State University will sponsor "Bowl a Strike Against Cancer" April 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Camelot Lanes in Boardman featuring teams of YSU students, faculty and friends. For $20 per person, each team of six will receive three hours of bowling, free shoe rental, a pitcher of pop and a pizza. Door prizes, bonus-pin prizes and raffles will also be included.
Area businesses are asked to make monetary or prize donations. All proceeds from this event will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay For Life at YSU, an 18-hour, nonathletic relay from 6 p.m. April 15 to noon April 16. Some highlights include an opening lap for cancer survivors, a luminary ceremony, the First Degree Band performing at 10 p.m. Friday and a karate demonstration at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. XBig Brothers Big Sisters is sponsoring a "Bowl for Kids' Sake" fund-raiser from noon to 5 p.m. April 2 at Colonial Lanes, Wilmington Road, New Castle, Pa. Teams of 4 to 6 people of all ages and skill levels are asked to raise $35 per person, which covers a game of bowling, shoe rental, refreshments, entertainment and T-shirt, and enters the person's name into a drawing for various prizes. Advance registration is required. The organization also welcomes corporate sponsorships and donations from businesses for a Chinese auction. XA "Paddle Battle Against Hunger" Table Tennis Tournament will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Second Harvest Food Bank, 2805 Salt Springs Road. Local businesses, civic organizations, churches and individuals will participate; single entry fee is $100. Phil Panno, local champion table-tennis player, will give an exhibition and provide dinner for two to anyone that can score 5 points on him. Hot dogs and soft drinks available. The event is sponsored by Ohio Edison to benefit the food bank.
NIGHTS AT THE RACES
XNortheast Ohio Adoption Services is sponsoring its second night at the races April 8 at DiLucia's Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road N.E., Warren. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and a light buffet and table snacks will be available. Races will begin at 7:15. The final race will be an auctioned race, with the winning horse sharing in the proceeds. The evening will also include a Chinese basket auction and a 50-50 drawing. XJohn F. Kennedy High School in Warren is raffling a Harley Davidson Road King Classic. Tickets are $20 each or three for $50. Only 2000 tickets will be sold. WORKSHOPS
XHoly Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church will hold a workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church social hall, 527 West Rayen Ave., Youngstown, for anyone interested in learning the art of Ukrainian Easter egg decorating (pysanky) and baking Ukrainian Easter bread (paska). Costs are $3 for adults; children under 18 are free. Reservations should be made by Monday by calling the church office at (330) 744-5820. Materials and lunch are provided. Participants must bring their own raw eggs for the pysanky workshop.
YARD SALES
