AWARDS YWCA to honor 27 area students
Recognition for the young women is based on scholastic and civic excellence.
BOARDMAN -- The YWCA of Youngstown will honor 27 area high-school seniors at its 11th annual Young Women with Bright Futures Awards ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Georgetown.
Each year the YWCA recognizes young women who have demonstrated a commitment to serving their schools, communities and families. High-school seniors are selected by their school teachers or administrators for excellence in scholarship and leadership. They must also be active participants in school or community activities and volunteerism.
Receiving recognition
The honorees are Colleen Casey of Austintown Fitch, Jamie Serenko of Boardman, Maria Rohan of Campbell Memorial, JoVanna Bianco of Canfield, Jennifer Gonda of Cardinal Mooney, Kristen Bielik of Chaney, Jaquala Gibbs of Choffin Career and Technical Center, Katie Sulka of Girard, Denah Julian of Hubbard, Mary Jo Kalasky of Jackson-Milton, Alexa Berkowitz of Liberty, Julie Iudiciani of Lowellville, Susan Kutsko of Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Sarah Logar of McDonald, Erica Cross of Mineral Ridge, Jillian Janik of Niles McKinley, Deloran Muransky of Poland Seminary, Imani Alexander of Rayen, Kimberly Cardinal of Sebring McKinley, Amanda Williams of South Range, Danielle DeWitt of Springfield Local, Michelle High of Struthers, Emily Krygowski of Ursuline, Mary Estock of West Branch, Dina Rathburn of Western Reserve, Ashley Robinson of Woodrow Wilson and Kendra La Gamba of Youngstown Christian.
Stephanie Hunter of Canfield is chairwoman of this year's event with co-chairwoman Jo Ann Ellis of Struthers.
Contest winner
Bright Future honorees are eligible to enter an essay contest in which they can earn a cash award to further their education or career pursuits after high school. This year's essay contest Winner is Jennifer Gonda of Cardinal Mooney.
