Fire causes little damage at Boardman home
BOARDMAN -- Fire and police investigators are checking into why a fire in the living room of a one-story, single-family ranch home on Forest Ridge Drive did not cause more damage. It is being categorized as "under investigation," according to Tim Drummond, assistant chief of the Boardman Fire Department.
"The fire appeared to have been burning for some time," said Drummond, who said firefighters used extinguishers to put out the fire, which was smoldering.
He said no one was in the home when firefighters responded at 11:13 a.m. Sunday in the Apple Acre development. A family member of the resident was at the home to meet fire personnel, Drummond said.
Damage was estimated at $30,000, he said.
The Boardman Police Department is also investigating, he said.
"It's really an unusual situation," Drummond said. "When we arrived there was just light smoke. ...The fire just burnt itself out."

YOUNGSTOWN -- Ahmed Ali, 50, of Youngstown was issued a citation charging illegal sale of alcohol when he sold a six-pack of beer to an underage person at Danny G's, 2328 Mahoning Ave., at 10 p.m. Saturday, police said.
