Secretary of state, judge due at legal education seminar



STEUBENVILLE -- On April 15, Franciscan University will host a continuing legal education seminar on civil liberties and human rights.
Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell will give a keynote address titled "A Perspective on the International Protection of Human Rights." He will be joined by J. Leon Holmes, a U.S. District Judge for the eastern district of Arkansas, who will speak on civil rights litigation in federal court.
Brian Felmet, former prosecuting attorney for Jefferson County; Franciscan University professors Dr. Brian Scarnecchia, Dr. Joseph Almeida and Dr. Stephen M. Krason; and Franciscan University adjunct instructors William Jakub, Philip Gray and Terrence McKeegan, will also present on topics ranging from the protection of civil liberties in canon law to the rights of soldiers under military law.
The conference offers six continuing legal education credits, including one credit of legal ethics, for attorneys in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Attorneys from other states may apply for credit from their own state CLE commissions.
The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Center at the university. Registration is $175 before March 15 and $210 from March 15 to April 8. A $10 fee will be charged for late or on-site registration. To register, call (800) 437-8368.
