Painesville Harvey ends Lakeview's tourney run

The Bulldogs went cold in the fourth quarter to fall 61-51.
MADISON -- Lakeview High boys basketball coach Larry Herrholtz was beaming with pride despite his disappointment following the Bulldogs' 61-51 loss to Painesville Harvey in the Division II district championship game at Madison High School Friday night.
The Bulldogs looked like they were on their way to a third upset in the tournament, owning an 11-point lead midway through the third period over the second-seeded Raiders.
Harvey (23-1) quickly erased the 33-22 Lakeview lead by finishing the game on a 39-18 run behind the torrid shooting of senior guard Morgan Lewis.
Lewis, a Cleveland State recruit, scored 16 of his 27 points in the second half to lead the charge.
Cold snap
Lakeview (20-4) didn't help itself by suddenly going cold from the floor after an impressive 3 1/2 games.
The Bulldogs shot just 4-of-19 from the field in the final period and endured a nearly five-minute scoring drought midway through the quarter that allowed Harvey to put the game away.
"We have no regrets," said Herrholtz, whose unseeded team previously knocked off the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds in the tournament.
"We left it all out there on the floor," Herrholtz said. We did everything we could to try to win this basketball game.
The Bulldogs outplayed the taller and more athletic Harvey team in the first quarter.
Lakeview got strong outside shooting from sophomore Dustin Opalka and junior Eddie Mackiewicz and good inside play by seniors Matt Pytlik and Trevor Mathews in the first half.
The Bulldogs led 11-9 after the first quarter and opened up a seven-point lead, 27-20 at halftime.
After a basket by Pytlik and two by Mike Frangiamore to start the third quarter, Lakeview opened up a 33-22 lead.
Rally time
Undaunted, Harvey began to press the attack and put pressure on Lakeview with its 1-2-2 zone press.
"The game started to change when we began to come out and pressured their guards," said Harvey coach Tim Starkey. "We started to get some turnovers and that led to our offense getting untracked."
Lakeview finally surrendered the lead on a Lewis 3-pointer which gave Harvey a 49-46 lead with 4:18 remaining.
The Bulldogs didn't score another point until there were just 43.9 seconds to go in the contest.
Opalka led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points, including eight in the final quarter. Pytlik finished with 10 while Frangiamore added eight points and six rebounds. "It was a fun ride," Herrholtz said. "Coming from nowhere and almost winning it was quite a thrill for us.
"They're hurting in there," said Herrholtz, pointing to the locker room. "But I'm so proud of this team right now. I'm beaming. Beaming with pride."
