Messiah eliminates Westminster women



GRANTHAM, Pa. -- Westminster College's women's basketball team was defeated by Messiah, 69-43, in the second round of the NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament Saturday night.
The Falcons (25-3) advanced to the NCAA Sectionals next weekend, where they will face Scranton.
Westminster closed the season with a 21-8 record for third-year coach Rosanne Scott, breaking the school record for wins in a season (19) set in 1988-89.
Messiah controlled play from the outlet, leading 32-18 at halftime.
The Falcons held a double-digit advantage for the entire second half.
Messiah was led by Kristin Sassaman with a game-high 24 points.
Westminster's Erica Tallo scored 10 points, while Desiree Sterling added nine. Alyson Gasper and Maria Joseph scored seven points each. Rachel Eaton grabbed five rebounds for the Titans and Sterling dished out three assists.
