CLEARWATER, Fla. -- With Vicente Padilla experiencing tendinitis in his right triceps, Gavin Floyd is trying to pitch his way into the Phillies rotation.
Floyd, sixth on the Phillies' depth chart, worked three scoreless innings Saturday, but Jose Morban and John Rodriguez hit a pair of two-run homers in the eighth inning to rally the Cleveland Indians to a 5-3 victory.
"I knew I might have a chance here," said Floyd, who went 2-0 in six September appearances in the majors last season. "That's why I wanted to come here in shape. I wanted to keep my name on the list."
The Phillies had a 3-0 lead heading into the eighth, but right-hander Edwin Moreno gave up the deep homers to Morban and Rodriguez. Ryan Darko hit a home run in the top of the ninth off Phillies right-hander Dan Giese.
Indians starter Jason Davis pitched two scoreless innings. The 24-year-old right-hander, who was demoted to Triple-A in July last season after spending a year in the Indians starting rotation, is trying to regain a roster spot either as the teams fifth starter or in the bullpen.
"I was impressed with the way [Davis] and all of the young pitchers threw," Indians manager Eric Wedge said.
Twins (ss) 6, Pirates 2
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Scott Baker insists he was nervous because he was facing batters for the first time this spring, not because he was pitching in his first game with big leaguers.
No matter the reason, Baker's outing for Minnesota was a success.
Baker, one of the Twins' top pitching prospects, retired all six batters he faced Saturday.
"It's something to build on," Baker said. "I have a few mechanical things to work on, but I'm happy with the way it went."
Gabby Torres went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Jacque Jones went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Jason Barlett went 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Twins split-squad.
Boof Bonser pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Zach Duke, the Pirates' top pitching prospect, was the loser, allowing three runs and four hits in two innings.
Pirates starter Josh Fogg pitched three scoreless innings in his first outing against major league competition.
He had pitched two scoreless innings last week against Valparaiso University. Fogg struck out three, walked none and allowed two hits.
He liked working with new Pirates catcher Benito Santiago.
"Benito and I are getting in a good groove together," Fogg said.
"He's starting to figure out what I want to do in situations and how I like to approach hitters. I look forward to working with him during the spring and getting to know him more."
The Pirates were held to a pair of third-inning singles until the eighth when Graham Koonce hit a solo homer. Bobby Hill added a pinch-hit homer in the ninth.
