Infant's death probed
YOUNGSTOWN -- The death of a Samuel Street infant girl early Saturday will be investigated by detectives, reports show. The baby, no age given, was placed on a love seat by her father while he watched basketball games with a friend, police were told. The infant's mother, who had been out for the evening, returned to the house and then left again to take a relative home. At that point, around 2 a.m., the baby's father noticed a problem and called for help, according to reports. The infant was taken to Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital, where she was unable to be saved, police said.
Forest Lawn cleanup

Monopoly winner
NILES -- Ross Lenhart of Warren passed go and won. He emerged the winner from a field of 36 participants in a Monopoly tournament recently at the Eastwood Mall in Niles. This was the 11th year that Camp Fire USA Northeast Ohio held the tournament as a fund-raiser. All contestants participated in two 90-minute preliminary rounds of Monopoly, from which the top six players went on to battle their real-estate trading skills in a final round.
Historic preservation
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Historic Preservation Committee of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society Board of Trustees announced the start of a program in 2005 to honor those in the Mahoning Valley who take an active role in preserving historic buildings, sites and districts. Historic preservation projects in Trumbull and Mahoning counties are eligible for recognition in appropriate categories. Award winners will be announced to the public during Historic Preservation Week in May, and recognized by the members of the society at the 130th annual meeting in June. Home-buyer workshop
YOUNGSTOWN -- Family Financial Education Services, a program of Family Service Agency, is sponsoring a first-time home-buyer workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 6. The free workshop is designed to cover basic home-buying information such as determining affordability, budgeting, credit problems and the loan application process. It will be held at the Family Service Agency, 535 Marmion Ave. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance that will satisfy the education requirements for some mortgage programs.
