Detroit, Loyola advance in Horizon

MILWAUKEE -- Brandon Cotton scored 19 points and James Thues 11 to help Detroit defeat Wright State 61-48 in quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament Friday night.
Detroit (13-15) advanced to the semifinal round Saturday night against Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Wright State (15-15) was led by DaShaun Wood with 15 points and Jaron Taylor with 10.
Wood tied the game 41-41 with a free throw with 7:37 remaining, but Tor Voris Baker scored with a putback off a missed free throw by Cotton with 7:32 to go to start a six-point run that gave the Titans a 47-41 lead. Ryvon Covile had the other two baskets in the run.
The Titans led 26-25 at halftime on Muhammad Abdur-Rahim's basket with 1:12 remaining before intermission.
Loyola 87, Ill.-Chicago 81, OT
MILWAUKEE -- Blake Schilb scored a career-high 39 points, including nine in overtime, to lead Loyola.
DaJuan Gouard added 19 points for the Ramblers (13-16), who won their sixth consecutive game.
They advanced to the semifinals Saturday night against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Schilb's previous high was 32 points Jan. 20 against Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Illinois-Chicago (15-14), the defending tournament champion, was led by Cedrick Banks with 22 points and Elliott Poole with 17.
After the Flames took the lead at 81-80 on a 3-pointer by Banks, Gouard scored with 1:12 remaining in overtime to put the Ramblers ahead for good at 82-81.
Schilb scored Loyola's last five points to seal the victory.
Schilb hit one of two free throws with 26.5 seconds left in regulation for a 72-68 Loyola lead, but Armond Williams scored a basket and Banks tied the game with a short-jumper with 12.7 seconds left to force the overtime.
Illinois-Chicago ran off 13 straight points on the way to a 34-26 halftime lead.
