Roodman promoted
Samuel Q. Roodman, son of Robert and Roberta Roodman of Morningstar Drive, Ellwood City, Pa., and husband of Helen Roodman, has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force after graduating from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala.
At OTS, cadets undergo a demanding 12-week course of training to be top quality Air Force officers. Roodman will serve as a communications engineer assigned to the 20th Mission Support Squadron at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, S.C.
The lieutenant is a 2002 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Erie.

Brown returns from Iraq
Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Brown, son of Daniel and Kathern Brown of East Liverpool, has returned to the 1st Battalion, 185th Armor, San Bernardino, Calif., after being deployed to an overseas support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Brown is a scout platoon sergeant with 16 years of military service.
The sergeant graduated in 1985 from East Liverpool High School and received an associate degree in 1989 from Youngstown State University.

Camp Smith takes Mikus
Daniel Mikus, a cadet in the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, was recently accepted to participate in Air Assault School at Camp Smith, N.Y., in June.
Mikus, son of Silvia Stefan of Youngstown and Daniel Mikus of Poland, plans to graduate in 2007 from West Point. He is a 2003 graduate of Ursuline High School.
Hazen completes school
Army Private Daniel F. Hazen, son of Hans D. and Eleanor A. Hazen, both of Girard, has graduated from Military Police Army School at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and will be stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
Hazen is a 2003 graduate of Girard High School.

REUNIONS
Preparations are under way for the 31st annual reunion of the men who served aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Maryland (BB-46).
This year's reunion will take place at the Hilton Hotel in Valley Forge, Pa., on Sept. 21-25. All U.S. Navy "Battleship Sailors," as well as the next of kin of our fallen shipmates are invited. Of added interest this year, sister ships, the U.S.S. Colorado (BB-45) and U.S.S. West Virginia (BB-48) will be having their own separate reunions at the same time and same location. A special commemorative dinner on Sept. 22, will be honoring all three sister ships.
