LIBERTY -- Applications for pupils to attend Liberty schools under the open enrollment policy for the 2005-06 school year will be available in the superintendent's office, 4115 Shady Road, Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
Applications must be picked up by the custodial parent/guardian. No applications will be distributed after Friday.
College scholarshipsoffered in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN -- College-bound high school seniors may apply for two $500 scholarship awards offered by the Youngstown Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs Inc.
The Black, Giddens, Gay Memorial Scholarship honors three former life members of the organization. The club sponsors the Ebony Fashion Fair each year to raise money for deserving students.
The organization is seeking students who have demonstrated academic ability and also have financial need.
To apply, seniors should contact their high school guidance counselor or phone (330) 747-1176 for more information. The deadline for applications is April 1.
Clothing donation drivesuccessful in Boardman
BOARDMAN -- The pupils and staff at Boardman Center Middle School collected 235 bags of clothes for the Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries School Bundle Bag program, which provides clothes to assist people with disabilities.
Pupils at the school, which houses grades 5-8, are required to participate in community service activities. This year, the pupils hosted a blood drive, collected food for the Mahoning County Rescue Mission, donated more than 150 toys to the Toys for Tots program, collected money for the Boardman Police Canine Monument and participated in the Mahoning County Green Team's recycling program.
Knight honored by Ohio
STEUBENVILLE -- The Ohio School Board Association honored Ron Knight, president of the Trumbull County Educational Service Center Governing Board, with the association's award of achievement at the recent Northeast Region Spring Conference.
The award is given to school board members in recognition of their commitment to in-service training and leadership activities on their boards of education, region and statewide OSBA activities.
The Trumbull County Educational Service Center provides educational leadership and instruction in the areas of curriculum development, special education and technology.
The center employs more than 300 teachers, therapists, psychologists and other specialists.
Dominion offering grantsfor Ohio schools
CLEVELAND -- The Dominion Educational Grants partnership program provides grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 to enable schools to strengthen math and science skills for pupils in grades K-12. The Dominion Foundation provides a total of $200,000 annually to be awarded to schools that submit successful grant proposals.
Applications must be submitted online through www.dom.com (keyword "grants"). The application deadline is May 2.

University sponsorsFast Track Program
BERKELEY, Calif. -- Area high school students have a chance to indulge their California dreams this summer.
The American Council for International Studies sponsors a program that allows students nationwide to spend four weeks at the University of California at Berkeley. The Berkeley Fast Track Program runs July 4-30.
While at Berkeley, students will attend one summer session course, for which they can earn up to three credits and live in a campus residence hall.
The deadline for application is April 15. The program is open to students 16 and older with a grade-point average of at least 3.0. To register, visit www.summeradvantage.com.
