Poland OKs Sheridan plan

POLAND -- Village council has approved extending Sheridan Road in a project that should cost little village money.
Council President Joe Mazur said council authorized advertising for bids for the project, which would extend Sheridan Road 250 feet north to Cover Street.
Mazur said the project has been estimated to cost about $65,000. He said part of that would come from the Visconsci Co., the Cleveland-area company that developed Walgreens drugstore here. The company agreed to pay $25,000 toward the project as part of the deal that allowed the company to go forward with the store.
The village hopes most of the rest of the cost will be covered by state Issue 2 money, Mazur said.
In other business at council's meeting Tuesday, council granted 3.5 percent pay raises to full time village employees, which includes the village marshal, six members of the police force, two street department workers and the village administrative assistant.
Council granted 4.5 percent increases to part-time police officers.
All the raises are retroactive to Jan. 2 and are in effect until council changes them, a village spokeswoman said.
