MEN'S TOP 25 Cincy crushes slumping Tulane



Third-ranked Kentucky had little trouble with Tennessee.
CINCINNATI -- Jihad Muhammad scored a career-high 24 points, including six 3-pointers, and Jason Maxiell added 18 points Wednesday night, leading No. 22 Cincinnati to a 77-56 victory over slumping Tulane.
Muhammad, a point guard who broke out of a deep shooting slump by scoring 21 points in his last game, came off the bench and steadied the Bearcats (23-6, 11-4 Conference USA) through a ragged showing. His fifth 3-pointer finished off a 20-4 run that put Cincinnati in control in the second half.
Muhammad went 9-of-13 from the field, 6-of-9 from behind the arc.
The Green Wave (9-17, 3-12) has lost a season-high five in a row, all by double digits. Tulane is one of four teams vying for the final three spots in the conference tournament.
No. 3 Kentucky 73, Tennessee 61
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Senior forward Chuck Hayes, playing his last home game for Kentucky, scored nine of his 13 points in the final 5 1/2 minutes as the third-ranked Wildcats held off upset-minded Tennessee.
Patrick Sparks scored 14 points -- all in the first half -- for the Wildcats (23-3, 14-1), who already had clinched the Southeastern Conference title.
No. 4 Wake Forest 98,Georgia Tech 91
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Vytas Danelius made sure his senior season was perfect at home, getting 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 4 Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons (25-4, 12-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) rallied from 11 points down in the second half to pull out the win and finish the season 16-0 at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
Chris Paul finished with 17 points -- his first game in double figures against the Yellow Jackets in four meetings. Jarrett Jack led Georgia Tech with 23 points.
No. 7 Kansas 72, Kansas St. 65
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Wayne Simien had 25 points and 20 rebounds and No. 7 Kansas celebrated the 50th anniversary of Allen Fieldhouse with a victory over Kansas State. The Jayhawks (22-4, 12-3) clinched at least a tie for the Big 12 championship with their 30th straight win over the Wildcats (15-11, 5-10).
No. 8 Oklahoma St. 69,Texas A & amp;M 63
STILLWATER, Okla. -- John Lucas III scored 27 points, Joey Graham added 16 and No. 8 Oklahoma State beat Texas A & amp;M in its closest home win of the season.
The Cowboys (21-5, 11-4 Big 12) didn't score a field goal in the final five minutes, but they hit 15 straight free throws down the stretch.
No. 15 Connecticut 83,Georgetown 64
STORRS, Conn. -- Charlie Villanueva scored 24 points and freshman Rudy Gay added a career-high 20 to give No. 15 Connecticut (20-6, 12-3 Big East) a win over Georgetown for coach Jim Calhoun's 700th career victory.
Calhoun become one of seven active Division I coaches with 700 wins. The sellout crowd of 10,167 at Gampel Pavilion stood for the closing seconds, chanting "700" and wildly waving placards printed with the number.

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Randy Foye scored a career-high 27 points and Curtis Sumpter added 19 to lead No. 19 Villanova.
Allan Ray scored 16 points for the Wildcats (20-6, 10-5 Big East).
No. 21 Alabama 94, Auburn 53
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Earnest Shelton and Kennedy Winston each scored 24 points to lead No. 21 Alabama over Auburn, snapping the Crimson Tide's two-game losing streak with a flourish.
Alabama (22-6, 11-4 Southeastern Conference) started a 36-9 run early in the second half to turn a nine-point game into a 36-point laugher.
