McFadden, Travis lead streaking Zips

AKRON -- Rick McFadden and Romeo Travis scored 15 points apiece to lead Akron to a 71-64 victory over Marshall on Wednesday.
McFadden, from Struthers, connected on 5-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Travis had eight rebounds for the Zips (18-8, 11-6 Mid-American Conference), who have won five of their last six games.
David Anderson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Marshall (5-21, 2-15), and Mark Patton added 12 points and 16 boards. The Thundering Herd have lost five straight.
The Thundering Herd battled back to within 45-42 on a layup by LaVar Carter with 10:40 left. McFadden connected on a 3 as the Zips scored 10 of the next 12 points.
Miami (Ohio) 70, Kent St. 45
OXFORD -- Danny Horace had 19 points and 15 rebounds, and Miami took control early. The RedHawks led 42-11 at halftime.
Nathan Peavy added 13 points for Miami (18-8, 12-5 MAC).
Demetrius Johnson scored 11 points and Jason Edwin had 10 for Kent State (18-11, 10-70).
Miami shot 47 percent from the field, compared with 28 percent by Kent State -- just 9 percent (2-of-22) in the first half -- and out-rebounded the Flashes 46-33.
W. Michigan 77, Bowling Green 52
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Levi Rost and Rickey Willis each scored 15 points as Western Michigan (18-10, 11-6) clinched at least a share of the MAC West championship.
Stane's Bufford and Joe Reitz added 11 points for the Broncos, who scored 13 of the game's first 15 points.
John Reimold, Steven Wright and Josh Almanson each scored nine points for Bowling Green (17-9, 10-7).
Ohio 90, Buffalo 77
ATHENS -- Jeremy Fears scored 20 of his 33 points in the second half to help Ohio defeat Buffalo.
Leon Williams added 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Bobcats (17-9, 11-6 MAC), who shot 60 percent from the field in the second half. Mychal Green finished with 19 points.
Turner Battle led Buffalo (18-8, 10-7) with 16 points, while Yassin Idbihi finished with 13.
Toledo 81, N. Illinois 75, OT
DEKALB, Ill. -- Sammy Villegas scored a game-high 23 points to lead Toledo over Northern Illinois.
The Rockets (15-12, 10-7 MAC) scored 42 points off the bench, to 16 for the Huskies (11-16, 7-11). Florentino Valencia added 19 points for Toledo. Keonta Howell scored 16 points, Justin Ingram added 11 and Keith Triplett had 10.
Todd Peterson led the Huskies with 19 points and six rebounds.
Ball St. 71, E. Michigan 56
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Peyton Stovall matched a career-high 24 points and Terrance Chapman added 14 to rally Ball State over Eastern Michigan.
Julien Mills had 11 points for the Cardinals (14-12, 9-8 MAC), who played without their leading scorer, Dennis Trammell, who is out with an injured Achilles tendon.
James Jackson led Eastern Michigan (12-16, 5-12 MAC) with 13 points. Danny McElhinny added 12 for the Eagles, who have dropped four straight games and 12 of their last 15.
