POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard and Liberty:
HUBBARD
Feb. 25
Burglary: A man returned to his home in the 800 block of Saul Drive and noticed someone had broken in.
Burglary: A woman noticed a rear door to her aunt's residence in the 40 block of East Park Avenue had been forced open. It was undetermined if anything was taken.
Theft: A man discovered money missing from his residence in the 800 block of Rosewood Drive.
Theft: A man in the 100 block of Church Street told police someone was stealing gasoline from his vehicle.
Feb. 26
Theft: A man discovered three handguns missing from his apartment in the 100 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road.
Assault: A man told officers two men assaulted the victim in his yard in the 500 block of Meadowland Court.
Recovered property: During a traffic stop, Hartford police recovered a sign that was stolen from Subway, 544 W. Liberty St. Officers say a man, 18, and a boy, 17, in the car admitted stealing the sign.
Feb. 27
Possible drugs: An employee at Taco Bell, 730 W. Liberty St., called police after a customer handed her a suspicious item, possibly drugs, while placing an order.
March 1
Theft: A man in the 800 block of West Park Avenue called police after noticing several items missing from his car.
Criminal mischief: While patrolling a section of Parish Avenue, police said they saw a vehicle traveling on the road with its occupants hanging onto the side of the car and skiing.
LIBERTY
Feb. 24
Theft/forgery: A Youngstown woman reported two personal checks were removed from her purse while she was at Curves International, 1482 W. Liberty St. One check was passed for $80 and the other was passed at National City Bank, 4499 Belmont Ave.
Forgery: A Warren woman discovered someone cashed a check belonging to her mother for $406 at National City Bank.
Arrest: Police took into custody a 26-year-old Hubbard man at the scene of a vehicular accident on state Route 304. He was wanted on a warrant from Hubbard charging him with unauthorized use of property.
Theft: An employee at U.S. Bank, 4700 Belmont Ave., alleged a former worker had been placing overdraft fees from a customer's account into her own over a six-month period. The loss to the business came to about $2,000.
Possible theft: A U.S. Bank investigator told police a former employee cleared two checks totaling $16,000, but that the bank's proof department never received the checks.
Auto theft: A woman in the 3100 block of Hadley Avenue said a Boardman man, 37, took her 2002 Pontiac Sunfire without permission.
Arrests: After the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle at a Speedway gas station, 4210 Belmont Ave., police arrested a Youngstown man, 44, on a charge of theft of a motor vehicle when the owner claimed it had been stolen. The owner, a 26-year-old Hubbard man, was charged with filing a false police report when officers say he contradicted initial information he had given them about the incident.
Criminal damaging: A man called police after discovering his car's window broken and dashboard damaged at his residence in the 4200 block of Logan Avenue. Damage was estimated at $300.
Theft/criminal damaging: A neighbor called a woman in the 3700 block of Logan Way after two people reportedly ripped an in-dash stereo and a monitor from her vehicle. The property was returned to the victim, but was damaged and waterlogged.
Arrest: Police picked up at his Goist Lane residence a 55-year-old man who was wanted on a warrant from Salem charging him with rape.
Theft: Officers arrested a 33-year-old Girard man on a theft charge after an employee at West Fork Roadhouse, 3851 Belmont Ave., alleged he was intoxicated and claimed he didn't have money to pay a $13.34 food bill.
Recovered property: An employee at Miller's Towing, 4100 Belmont Ave., reported receiving a call from a man stating his friend's 1989 Chevy Beretta had been stolen. Police recovered the car at the business after determining it was stolen from a Youngstown man.
Feb. 26
Criminal damaging: A Girard man visiting a friend in the 200 block of Goldie Road noticed his car's passenger-side window had been shattered, which caused $500 in damage.
Possible theft: A Youngstown man reported his $300 cellular phone lost or stolen while he was at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex, 1620 Motor Inn Drive.
Feb. 27
Assault: A Newton Falls man suffered a welt on his forehead after reporting a Girard man, 38, punched him during an argument over a bounced check while they were in the 3100 block of Belmont Avenue.
Feb. 28
Drugs: After pulling over a vehicle near Fifth Avenue and Colonial Drive for having a cracked windshield, police arrested a Youngstown woman, 24, on one count of driving under suspension. She also was charged with drug abuse after officers say she admitted having a suspected marijuana cigarette in her possession.
Theft: An employee at Margala & amp; Sons Inc., 2640 Youngstown-Hubbard Road, arrived at work and discovered a pump, an air-to-air charger and a radiator fan had been removed from a fenced-in area. The theft came to about $1,650.
