Police arrest nine in 'epidemic' of public sex-related offenses

The arrests have been made at or near the boat launch east of Mosquito Dam, the chief says.
BAZETTA -- Police have arrested nine men in the past two weeks on indecent exposure and other sex-related charges.
All of the arrests have been made at or near the boat launch east of Mosquito Dam, said Police Chief Chuck Sayers.
"It's becoming an epidemic," Sayers said. "The Army Corp. of Engineers have become very concerned and so they have asked us to help with the problem. It seems every time we are out there we are arresting someone else."
Sayers said officers arrested three men in a single day for indecent exposure.
He noted that in past years people have made similar arrests but the activity has increased, Sayers said.
"We want this to stop," he said. "This is a public area and we don't want this going on. We are going to take an aggressive stance and hopefully get it stopped."
Judge Thomas Campbell of Central District Court said so far five men have been convicted on the charges.
Sayers noted that two others have pleaded not guilty and two others are awaiting arraignment.
