Mink Financial holds off R & amp;J rally



R & amp; J completed the first triple play of the season.
STRUTHERS -- Mink Financial scored two runs in the third and sixth innings and held off a late rally by R & amp; J Trucking to post a 4-1 victory Wednesday in Class B League action at Cene Park.
Chris Pechalk singled and doubled while Dave Piersante tripled and Brett Grabman doubled for Mink (13-7).
Mat Weymer went the first 61/3 innings for his fourth win. He had six strikeouts. Lonnie McQueen picked up the save.
C.J. Morris led R & amp;J (13-7) with a pair of hits while Joe Fox took the loss. He allowed all four runs (two earned) in 52/3 innings of work.
R & amp;J also pulled off the first triple play of the season. In the first inning, Mink runners were on first and second base and running on the pitch to Grabman.
Grabman hit a line drive caught by second baseman Cody Fincham who stepped on the bag at second and threw to first for the third out.
Wharmby 11, Sugar Excavating 1
Josh Fyffe had three hits and Billy Herman added two with three RBIs to back up the one-hit pitching of Jarryd Summers for Wharmby (13-7).
Summers had 10 strikeouts and walked just one in the five-inning game.
Dave Diyorio had a triple and scored the only Sugar (7-13) run in the fifth inning.
Rondinelli 7, Express 1
Matt Dado hit a triple and two singles and drove in three runs for Rondinelli Tuxedo (14-6), which moved into first place in the Goldstone Division.
Cory Collins tossed a complete game for the win with nine strikeouts. He also had two hits.
Dan McCloud had two hits for the Express (4-16).
Astros 12, Roth Brothers 2
John Mang, Adam Wigley, Jesse D'Amico, Josh McKenney and Adam Wilaj led Astros (16-4) with two hits apiece.
Astros' pitcher Joe Kohler won for the fifth straight time to tie Vince Ricola for the most wins in the league.
Kohler, the leader in ERA, did allow two earned runs.
John Pitzulo drove in the two runs for Roth (2-18) with a double.
Livi Steel 8, Koch/Line Drive 5
Livi Steel scored seven runs in the last three innings to come from behind and defeat Koch/Line Drive.
Billy Messer and Dan Morrison had three hits apiece for Livi (12-8). Marc Rossi and Shane Liska added two hits each for the winners.
Derek Sumner (2-2) allowed just two earned runs in the complete game victory.
Joe Iacobucci had a single and a double for Koch/Line (7-13).
