2 drownings in unmonitored Ohio waters

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Two Cleveland men have drowned in as many days in areas that were not patrolled by lifeguards.
Lavelle Gaddis, 30, drowned in Lake Erie off Euclid Beach around 10 a.m. Tuesday. Police said Dione Pollard, 20, drowned around 9:30 p.m. Monday after he jumped into a dimly lit stretch of the Cuyahoga River in suburban Independence.
Gaddis drowned within feet of where an 11-year-old boy drowned earlier this month. Four people have recently drowned in areas of Lake Erie not patrolled by lifeguards.
Robert Gaddis said his brother was not a weak swimmer and he and neighbors often went swimming around the same stretch of beach, where "No Swimming" signs are posted.
Pollard was fishing with friends when they decided to go for a swim in water 12 feet deep.
