Koch/Line Drive advances past Dave Sugar in Little b playoffs



AUSTINTOWN -- Koch Construction/Line Drive defeated Dave Sugar Excavating, 5-0, on Monday at Koch Field to advance to the Class Little b playoff semifinals.
Dom Silverstri and Corey Susany combined on a three-hit shutout while Anthony LaVolpa and Nick Turco each contributed three hits as Koch/Line Drive swept the best-of-three opening-round series.
Koch/Line Drive, which allowed one run in 12 innings, will either play top-seeded Astro Falcons or No. 2 R & amp; J Trucking.
Silvestri finished with three strikeouts and four walks through six innings. Susany retired three straight hitters in the seventh inning.
LaVolpa drove in a pair of runs with a first-inning double and a sixth-inning triple.
For Sugar, Eric Pirtz singled twice and starting pitcher Jeff Musick allowed two earned runs in five and two-thirds innings.
L.F. Wolf Contracting 9, Rondinelli Tuxedo 3
Wolf Contracting evened its series with Rondinelli to force tonight's deciding game (8 at Koch Field).
Winning pitcher T.J. Stoian produced three Wolf runs with a pair of sacrifice flies and a groundout.
Stoian scattered nine hits and yielded two earned runs in going the distance, fanning four and not issuing any free passes.
Garrett Molloy had three hits and scored three times while Cory Johnson, Frank LaRubbio and Garen Ream each had two hits.
Mike Hoelzel and Corey Gruelle each had a pair of safeties, and Corey Hitt contributed a RBI double for Rondinelli.
The second-round of the playoffs will begin on Thursday.
