Former Mahoning deputy sheriff arraigned

YOUNGSTOWN -- An Aug. 10 trial date has been set for a former Mahoning County deputy sheriff on a drug trafficking charge.
Michael S. Terlecky, 49, of Leffingwell Road, Canfield, entered a plea of innocent at his arraignment Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Authorities said he either sold or tried to sell the painkiller OxyContin on Aug. 29, 2003, in the county.
The charge is a third-degree felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. The case is assigned to Judge James C. Evans. Terlecky remains free on a personal recognizance bond pending trial. His lawyer is Atty. Don L. Hanni Jr.
Terlecky also awaits trial for seven other drug trafficking charges involving OxyContin from a period between April 7 and Aug. 15, 2003. That trial also is assigned to Judge Evans.
The prosecutor's office has said Terlecky could face additional charges as investigators continue examining other drugs found in his Canfield home in August 2003.
