First Place sponsors grant for car show

The foundation is organized for charitable and educational purposes.
WARREN -- First Place Community Foundation is providing a $10,000 grant to underwrite the upcoming 16th annual Packard Car Show.
The community foundation will be the event's overall sponsor, July 22-24.
The theme of this year's event is "Packards at Your Service."
On display will be examples of Packard vehicles that were used in the service industry, such as a 1953 Packard three-door Air Force ambulance, the 1911 Detroit Flying Squad firetruck, a 1938 "carved body" funeral coach, and Goodyear's 1917 Wing Foot Express.
The First Place Community Foundation was formed in 1998 by First Place Financial Corp.
In forming the foundation, the company's board believed that a charitable foundation was consistent with the association's commitment to community focus; the foundation is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.
Kickoff in the park
The 16th annual show festivities begin July 22 with "Packards in the Park," tied to the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County's Friday "Noon in the Park" series on Courthouse Square.
On Saturday, the All-Packard Show and Review will be on the south lawn of Packard Music Hall, with music by the Stephen Foster Chorus and the Big Band Sounds of Packard.
The show ends Sunday with an "all-makes cruise in." This free event is open to all makes of collector vehicles and will feature a rock and roll performance in the Warren Community Amphitheatre by the Van-Dells.
Also planned in July at the facility at 1899 Mahoning Ave. N.W. is the Antique Automobile Club of America Central Division national fall meet, "Old Cars Come Alive in '05," on July 7-9.
The museum's membership exceeds 400 people with an active volunteer base of more than 100. The museum is open to the public noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
