SOFTBALL Bowling Green's Gina Rango picked for All-America team

She is a Boardman High graduate.
BOWLING GREEN -- Boardman High graduate and Bowling Green State University softball standout Gina Rango has been selected to the 2005 Easton All-America team.
Rango, a junior in 2005, was chosen to the third team. Forty-five players were named to the 2005 Easton All-America first, second and third teams from NCAA Division I, II and III schools, NAIA schools and junior colleges.
A 2002 graduate of Boardman High, Rango is the first Falcon chosen to the Easton All-America squad and is the first BGSU softball All-American of any kind since 1988. Amy Lienhardt earned second-team honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association that year.
Rango, a native of North Lima, played on the Spartans' Division I state championship team.
She was the 2005 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and also was named to the NFCA's All-Great Lakes Region First Team for the third time in as many years.
Additionally, she was an All-MAC First Team choice for the third consecutive spring.
BGSU record
Rango led the Falcons with a .368 batting average and paced the Falcons in hits (60), triples (five), total bases (82), slugging percentage (.500) and on-base pct. (.432).
Rango was second on the team in home runs (two), RBIs (31), walks (16) and stolen bases (15).
Rango has already placed her name at the top of several BGSU career records lists, including homers, RBIs, batting average and slugging percentage.
In MAC games, Rango hit .356 this spring and led the Falcons in slugging (.508), on-base percentage (.465), walks (11) and stolen bases (seven).
She was second in the league in OBP and tied for second in bases on balls.
Rango tied for third in steals and tied for fourth in RBIs (14), while ranking sixth in the league in hitting in conference games.
The Falcons finished with an overall record of 29-30 and went 2-2 in the MAC Tournament. BGSU qualified for the league tournament for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
