SCHOOLS 4 candidates left in search

The board has been checking references on the candidates this week.
CAMPBELL -- And then there were four.
The search for a new superintendent for the Campbell City School District has been narrowed to four candidates, and interviews are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, said Diane Petruska, school board president.
The four finalists, selected from a field of 29 applicants, are:
UDavid Heflinger, principal, Ross High School, Fremont.
UKevin Turner, superintendent, Jefferson Area Schools in Ashtabula County.
UThomas Robey, general manager, Life Skills Education Center of Toledo.
UGregg Reink, superintendent, Mogadore schools.
Competitive field
Turner has been superintendent of Jefferson schools since 2000 and last year was a finalist for the superintendent's position in Port Clinton. Robey is a former superintendent of Claymont City Schools in Dennison.
Al Meloy, a consultant for the Ohio School Boards Association who has helped conduct the search, said the school board is doing reference checks this week.
"It's a pretty competitive field," he said. "I'm really pleased that the board has stayed right on its timeline for the search."
The board has said it would like to hire a new superintendent by early July.
Petruska said the board is pleased with the qualifications of the finalists. "It's going to be a tough decision," she said.
The new superintendent will succeed James A. Ciccolelli, a Campbell native who served as superintendent for 12 years. His contract was not renewed by the board after the 2003-2004 school year.
