HARTFORD -- Russell King took first in the Gibson-Governor V-8 Modifieds feature at Sharon Speedway June 18, forcing his father, Rex King, to finish second behind him, hours before Father's Day.
The feature win was a first for 16-year-old Russell King.
Saturday night started with the completion of the Gibson-Governor V-8 Modifieds feature from June 11, which was rained out.
The V-8 modifieds race is typically 25 laps, but Saturday's first feature was started on the seventh lap, where it had been cut short the week prior due to rain.
Russell King took the lead on the 14th lap from Allen Dellinger and held onto it until the end. After receiving the checkered flag, he did a 360 in the infield to celebrate.
It was Russell King's fourth time racing at Sharon Speedway.
Russell and Rex are only the second father-son team in racing to place first and second in the same race since the mid-1980s.
The night continued after making up the rained-out races as the Boardman Steel/Diamond Steel/ Welsh Motors and Froggy 95's Father's Day 500 Boy Scout Night.
To stay on schedule, the V-8 Modifieds ran a second time. Rex King took another second place finish, but Russell King finished farther back in the pack with an 11th place finish. Alan Dellinger held onto his lead for a first place finish.
Saturday will be the Quaker Steak & amp; Lube and Mark Thomas Ford night of racing at Sharon Speedway. 410 Sprints, V-8 Modifieds, Green Flag Sprints, Pure Stocks and E-Modifieds will be racing.
