Fashion has gone on safari -- again

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
In the late 1960s, Vogue magazine published a fashion photograph that became an icon of the era. Posed in the African bush, Verushka, the Amazonian model, was wearing a suede safari shirt from France's Yves Saint Laurent.
The designer was mining the streets at the time for such bohemian ideas as pea coats, motorcycle jackets and beatnik sweaters.
Now the safari shirt is back in the fashion fields, reports Time magazine.
Credit goes to Stefano Pilati, who recently replaced Tom Ford as the creative director at Saint Laurent. For his first season, he borrowed from Saint Laurent's archives to return some of his iconic pieces to the runway. He even produced a status bag named Verushka, Time reports.
The shirt, in supple suede, seems a natural for today's world. With a lace-up front, it's sexy in a subtle way.
It will probably be belted over slim trousers and denim jeans. And perhaps most important, it will probably be copied quickly.
