YOUNGSTOWN -- Coach Jerry Slocum announced the signing of junior college guard Keston Roberts Tuesday.
Roberts, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., is Slocum's first recruit.
Roberts (6-foot-4, 200 pounds) played at Connors State (Okla.) College from 2002-04, averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds per game as a sophomore.
He did not play basketball last season after returning to Brooklyn to help take care of his family.
Roberts spent a year at Mount Zion Christian Academy in Durham, N.C., where he averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game in 2001-02.
In Brooklyn, he played at Erasmus Hall High, averaging 18 points and seven rebounds per game as a senior.

Luke Henry earns Academic All-America
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College senior track and field athlete Luke Henry was named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division second team Academic All-American team.
Henry graduated summa cum laude with Highest Honors last month with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and earned 3.91 grade-point average as a student.
'Johnny Bravo'coming to Mercer
MERCER, Pa. -- Armstrong Zoom Cable Internet Service will sponsor "Johnny Bravo" of The Cartoon Network Saturday to Mercer Raceway Park as part of American Patriot Night.
"Johnny Bravo" will make appearances throughout the night, starting at approximately 5:30 p.m.
A full night of racing along with a spectacular fireworks display will also be held.

*WASHINGTON -- In a game that featured four second-half technicals and an ejection, Alana Beard scored 19 points to lead the Washington Mystics to a 77-56 win over the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night.
Beard made three jumpers in a 17-3 second-half run that broke open a close game against the Mercury (3-8). The Mystics improved to 5-6.
Anna DeForge scored 18 points and Diana Taurasi added 16 for the Mercury. Taurasi was involved -- directly or indirectly -- in all four technicals.
Taurasi drew a foul backing in on Temeka Johnson, and Mystics coach Richie Adubato walked halfway across the court during a timeout to yell at an official, drawing a technical.
Taurasi later threw elbows to knock down two Mystics players after grabbing a rebound, and Phoenix coach Carrie Graf got a technical for arguing. Then, after the Mystics had a big lead, Taurasi and DeLisha Milton-Jones were involved in an altercation that ended with Milton-Jones charging Taurasi at midcourt.
Taurasi and Milton-Jones were given technicals, and Milton-Jones was ejected.
*NEW YORK -- Ann Wauters tied a career high with 20 points, and Becky Hammon added 17 and a season-high nine assists to lead the New York Liberty (5-4) past the San Antonio Silver Stars, 77-59.
Shameka Christon added 14 points for New York, winners of three straight and four of its last five.
Chantelle Anderson and Marie Ferdinand scored 14 points apiece for San Antonio (2-10), which lost its fourth straight.
Wauters, who shot 9-for-16 and also grabbed eight rebounds, had her highest total since scoring 20 against Utah on June 30, 2002, while playing for the defunct Cleveland Rockers.
Niners sign Morton
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Receiver Johnnie Morton agreed to a two-year contract Tuesday with the San Francisco 49ers, who finally added a veteran wideout to one of the NFL's least impressive receiving corps.
Morton, an 11-year pro, spent the last three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, who released him June 2 after Morton refused to take a cut in his $3 million salary. He spent his first eight seasons with the Detroit Lions, recording four 1,000-yard campaigns.
Morton could be an immediate starter for the lowly 49ers, who parted ways with Cedrick Wilson and Curtis Conway after going 2-14 last season. Morton joins Brandon Lloyd, Arnaz Battle and tight end Eric Johnson as the top targets for Tim Rattay and No. 1 draft pick Alex Smith.
Morton has caught 603 passes for 8,431 yards and 43 touchdowns in his career.
