South Side man is awakened by gunfire



YOUNGSTOWN -- A South Side man was awakened early Tuesday after a bullet struck his Detroit Avenue home.
Around 1 a.m., police were called to the area of Detroit and Gibson Street after gunfire erupted. The resident in the 700 block of Detroit said that he woke up to the sound of five to 10 shots. He heard one shot enter his living room, according to a report. No one was injured.
Police found one slug on the living room floor, the report said.
Another resident who lives in the same neighborhood told officers that as he pulled into his driveway, he saw a black male wearing a red shirt emerge from a home in the 500 block and fire five to 10 shots before fleeing in a vehicle toward South Avenue. The car was described as a four-door Oldsmobile or Cadillac, according to the report.
An officer found five spent Luger 9 mm casings in the road near the residence in the 500 block of Detroit, the report says.
