Wharmby's holds off Astro, 6-3



The win moved Wharmby into a first-place division tie with Astro Falcons.
STRUTHERS -- Wharmby's Sports built a 6-1 lead and held off a seventh inning rally by the Astro Falcons to win 6-3 Monday night in a Class B League game at Cene Park.
Both teams are tied for first place in the Cene Division with 10-4 records.
Tom Popidak (3-1) tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts and no walks for Wharmby's.
Kyle Smith (2-1) started and took the loss as he went five innings, allowing all six runs (three earned). He had eight strikeouts and walked five. Smith also had a triple and a single, while Jesse D'Amico had a pair of doubles for the Astros.
Lou Kopachy had a double, a single, a sacrifice fly and drove in three runs for Wharmby's.
Mink Financial 14, Roth Brothers 4
Mink pounded out 17 hits to improve to 8-6. Jason Davis, Brett Grabman, Lonnie McQueen, Kevin Lee, Caullan Owens, and Joe Vaught had two hits each for Mink. Matt Weymer (3-0) went the first four innings on the mound for the win and had four strikeouts. Owens had three RBIs.
Jim Neil and John Pitzulo had two hits each for Roth (2-12).
Sugar Excavating 4, Yo. Express 3
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning Dave Sugar Excavating scored four times.
Dan Allison hit a bases loaded triple to cap the rally, making a winner out of Barry Adkins (1-1) in relief.
Brian Hritz had went the first 51/3 innings for Sugar. Mike Berry had a pair of doubles for the Express.
Mark Cartwright went the first 5 plus innings with eight strikeouts, while Tad Gaspar (2-2) suffered the loss in relief.
Livi Steel 7, R & amp; J Trucking 5
Livi Steel scored three times in the second inning and added four more in the fifth, then held off a R & amp; J Trucking rally in the top of the seventh to knock off the Goldstone Division co-leader.
Brock Stevens had two hits, while Marc Rossi had a triple to drive home a run in the fifth for Livi.
Dan Morrison had a two-run single. Jake Abbott (2-1) went the first 62/3 innings and Derek Sumner, who had a RBI single, picked up the save.
For R & amp; J Trucking Aaron Cosma suffered his first loss.
Mike Welce and Ed Rohan had RBI singles in the seventh inning rally.
Rondinelli 11, Koch/Line Drive 7
Rondinelli spotted Koch/Line Drive a 3-0 lead in the first and then came back for the win, putting them alone in first place in the Goldstone Division.
Vince Riola went the first five innings for his league leading fourth win. He had four strikeouts.
Tim Kearney picked up his second save.
Cameron Cimino had three hits for Rondinelli and drove in two runs, while Matt Ruble had a pair of singles for the Koch/Line Drive.
