Aggravated assaults
BOARDMAN -- Police are investigating an aggravated robbery at one township business and an attempted aggravated robbery at another.
An employee at Antone's Restaurant, Boardman-Canfield Road, was getting ready to open the business shortly after 7 a.m. Friday when she saw two people at the rear of the business. She let them in, thinking they were new employees arriving for work. Once inside, they pulled a gun, taking $450, a safe and two bottles of liquor.
About 10:30 p.m. Friday, a woman was preparing to make a night deposit at the Key Bank, Market Street, when a man came up to the window of the car in which the woman was a passenger, and started banging on the window. The driver of the car drove away.
YSU repair money
COLUMBUS -- The State Controlling Board released $262,547 to Youngstown State University on Monday to repair walkways, curbs and steps on campus.
Made up of six lawmakers and a representative of the governor's office, the board has the final say over some of the state's larger spending projects.
Senator open house
YOUNGSTOWN -- A representative from U.S. Sen. George V. Voinovich's office will have office hours from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Mahoning County commissioners' office, Suite 200, at 21 W. Boardman St. Residents who want to discuss federal legislation or seek assistance with federal agency casework issues are urged to attend.
Careful computer theft
YOUNGSTOWN -- Computer equipment was reported missing from First Educators Investment Corp. on West Federal Street after a cleaning lady discovered a break-in early Monday, police said. The rear door had been damaged, but the owner needed to use a key to unlock the deadbolt, reports show. Removal of the computers was done with care, no mess was found, police said.
Graffiti discovered
AUSTINTOWN -- A township employee found a door to a storage building at the police department's shooting range open. Once inside the building, vandals used white paint to spray graffiti on the west side of the structure. The damage was discovered Friday morning.
Man faces robbery
BOARDMAN -- A Youngstown man faces a robbery charge, accused of taking a woman's purse in a grocery store parking lot.
John Holby, 21, is accused of grabbing the woman's purse, knocking her down and then fleeing Sunday afternoon. He was later arrested on the east side of Youngstown.
AAA Vietnam dinner
NILES - The Trumbull County office of Ohio AAA will host a travel program for people interested in touring Vietnam from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Alberini's Restaurant.
Dr. George Beelen, a retired Youngstown State University history professor, will lead the program. AAA will offer a Vietnam tour in December.

Council caucus meets
POLAND -- Poland Village Council meets for its caucus at 7 tonight and its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Among the items of discussion will be an invoice for engineering for a sidewalk project. The meeting will be at town hall, 308 S. Main St.
