HELOISE Monday feature seeks feedback on possible switch
Dear Readers: We at Heloise Central have been running our fast facts feature for some time now. It's usually in the Monday column and includes a common item, like a plastic margarine dish, and then a list of five ways to recycle or reuse the item.
We are considering replacing this feature with something different. (An example is Test Your Hint IQ.) But first, we thought we would ask you what you think.
So, would you like to see the Heloise Fast Facts continue, or would you rather see a different or new feature? Please take a couple of minutes to drop us a line at Heloise@compuserve.com; fax to (210) 435-6473; or mail to: Heloise, P.O. Box 795000, San Antonio, TX 78279-5000. Heloise
P.S. If you want to include your Fast Facts, please do so, and if the readers decide to continue this special feature, we will print the best.
Dear Heloise: My son has been in the military for several years, and no matter how I sent homemade cookies to him, they always arrived in crumbs. I have finally found the perfect solution.
I now buy 8-inch disposable foil pans and press the cookie dough into them to bake. While it is still warm, I cut it into small squares and let it cool completely. I put them in gallon-size zipper-type bags, press all the air out and stack them in a box with packing peanuts between and around each pan in the box. My son (currently in Baghdad) said they arrive two and a half weeks later, very fresh and intact. Sandy Kuhn, Logan
Sandy, you are brilliant! Who says cookies have to be round? A Texas-size salute to all of our troops around the world and their families. Heloise
Dear Readers: Here's a poll from Heloise Central on a few favorite kitchen hints:
USave shaker containers (like Parmesan cheese or large spice containers) to put sugar or flour in.
UWhen making a German chocolate cake, substitute the same amount of club soda for the water called for in the recipe. This makes a moist and yummy cake.
UBefore serving ice-cream cones, place a small marshmallow in the bottom of each cone. This will help keep the ice cream from dripping out the bottom.

One of my biggest peeves is getting stuck with bath towels with decorative borders that shrink, leaving a horrid-looking, puckered-up towel. Last time it happened to me, the border measured 5 inches narrower than the terry part! I wrote the supplier and was reimbursed.
When my towels reach the time when they need to go to towel heaven, I keep a stack on the dryer -- they are handy for cleaning, wiping up spills, etc., and you just throw them in the washer after you are done! Maggie Wilson, New Brighton, Minn.
